Asko Wine Climate Cabinets: Models, Codes and Repair

Cellar conditions in a kitchen niche depend on air, level and a clean door seal. Here is what to read and check first.

At a glance

Overview

Asko wine climate cabinets keep bottles at a steady cellar condition inside a flat, a condo kitchen or an in-law unit where a real cellar is out of the question. In San Francisco they are usually fitted into a cabinet run or an alcove, which means the cabinet depends on a few inches of breathing room that nobody sees once the joinery is finished. When something goes wrong, the cause is often in that hidden space rather than in the cabinet door you can see.

The cabinets we see in the Bay Area

Two wine cabinet models are listed on this site. The WCN111942G is a wine cooler in the Wine Climate Cabinet series and is currently sold. The WCN311942G is also a wine cooler in the same series; no availability information is given for it. Beyond that, we do not assign capacities, finishes or features to either model, because the label on your cabinet is the only dependable source for that.

For repair work the family has one clear divide: how the cabinet is installed. A cabinet set into joinery needs air to pass through its vent or grille. A cabinet that stands free needs space at the back and sides. Both versions end up in the same trouble when that air path is blocked.

Finding the model label

The label is usually on an inner wall of the cabinet, close to the door opening. Open the door, look along the side walls and photograph the label with your phone. Write the full number as printed. The model matters because the diagnostic steps, the sensors fitted and the parts list differ from one model to the next.

Common complaints

  • Temperature drifting. The display shows a setting the shelves do not seem to match. Read the wine cabinet temperature problems guide for the order of checks.
  • Fan noise. A humming, ticking or rattling that is new. Our wine cabinet fan noise guide separates harmless sounds from ones that call for a visit.
  • Display shows a letter and a digit. Wine cabinets use short codes, covered in the next section.
  • Door not sensed as closed. A light that stays on or a warning about the door often traces back to the gasket, a bottle leaning on the door, or the sensor itself.
  • Wi-Fi connection failing. The cabinet works as a cooler but cannot reach the app.

Error codes on the display

The code meanings below are listed for the WCN111942G, and each one has its own page. For the full set, see wine cabinet error codes.

  • F1 is an appliance compartment fan error, and F2 is a condenser fan error.
  • t1, t2 and t3 point to sensors: environment temperature and humidity, the appliance compartment, and the evaporator.
  • E9 is a door sensor error and U1 is a vibration sensor error.
  • E0 and E8 are communication faults between the power board and the user interface electronics, one for each direction.
  • The Wi-Fi group is 81, E1, E4, E5 and E6, with pages such as E4 for a cloud connection that will not form.

Do not guess from the letter alone. Write the code down exactly, including whether the letter is upper or lower case, and add it to your booking.

Safe first steps

  1. Check that the cabinet is plugged in and that the breaker or GFCI feeding that outlet has not tripped.
  2. Close the door firmly and look at the gasket for a fold, a gap or a bottle neck touching it.
  3. Clear any vent, grille or toe space of boxes, cleaning supplies and dust.
  4. Check that the cabinet stands level and does not rock.
  5. Read and write down the display code, then try a single controlled power reset: switch off, wait, switch on.

Do not open panels, test the wiring or touch the sealed cooling circuit. If you smell burning or see sparks, switch the cabinet off at the breaker.

Next steps

If the checks do not clear the problem, book through our Asko wine cabinet repair service. The visit starts with diagnosis, followed by a written estimate, and nothing is repaired until you approve it. Have the model number and the code ready, along with a note of how long the symptom has been present and where the cabinet is installed.
