Error codeE23 and E23.1
ApplianceWasher
When E23 or E23.1 is on the display, the washer has shut the door and then failed to release it. The wording comes from the WM85.1 and WM75.B instructions for use.
First move
Switch the washer off and on again. The manual refers readers to its manual door opening instructions, and a technician visit is the next step if the code stays.
Opening the door by hand
This is only for a machine that is disconnected from the mains and already pumped out.
Pump the water out first with the Spinning or Drain program; if that fails, drain the drum manually.
In the W4114C manual the emergency door opening tool is stored at the back of the detergent dispenser.
Put the tool into the upper part of the slot on the right-hand side of the door latch.
Press it downwards all the way until a click is heard, which unlocks the door, then pull the door open.
Model notes
WM75.B: a door that stays locked after an error can be released by holding the Start/Pause button for a while.
WM76 series: do not force the door open, since that can damage the locking mechanism, and the lock may release with a delay after the program ends.
Related door codes
E22 is the matching failure to lock, E24 is a door lock error while unlocking, and E2 is the door lock error on the WM85.1.
Washer service in the San Francisco Bay Area
A door that will not open is a good reason to bring in Asko washer repair; ring (415) 993-3547. Share the code, your model number, and whether the power cycle or the hold on Start/Pause made any difference.
Model compatibility: Asko reuses codes across series and model years, so E23 and E23.1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
E23 and E23.1 report a door unlock error where the door is closed but cannot be unlocked.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, water lines, sealed cooling systems or anything behind a panel. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
